Peri-Implantitis

In spite of the excellent success rates of dental implants, a certain number of implants may develop peri-implantitis, which is an inflammatory disease of bacterial origin that affects the bone around the dental implants and progresses at different rates.

Without treatment, the bone loss may progress and the affected implant may be eventually lost. The treatment consists on the elimination of the infection by removing the bacterial deposits from the implant surface and reducing the pockets that are formed around the implants. In certain cases it may be possible to regenerate the lost tissue.
